Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Although it was an unusual week for us in M29 with some of us learning from home while others were in the classroom we all learned about some very big ideas. We spent the week discussing the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to ensure the students understood why they were taking a day off from school today to honor him.
With our switch to at home quarantine I'm sure you all have many questions about what to expect this week. Although we will be learning from home we will be following our classroom schedule as much as possible. Our day will begin at 9:00 and end around 3:oo just like when we attend in person. We will alternate between live instruction and independent/partner work time throughout the day. When we are working independently we will stay in our Google Meet so that the students can ask for help when needed as well as hear when it is time to come back to their computer for our next lesson. This worked well when we were in distance learning last year and made things much easier for parents. It is my goal to make this as easy on all of you as possible. Other than ensuring your child is logged into our Google Meet you should not need to assist them with much else. I will be taking attendance each day so please let me and the office know if your child will not be in attendance at any time.
To access our Google meet each day all your child needs to do is click on the Meet button found at the top of the page in Google Classroom. I showed most of them where this button is located in class so hopefully they won't have any trouble finding it. We have been using Google Classroom daily in the classroom so your child should be very familiar with how to access it and find their work.
Finally, I will be putting together some supplies, including your child's chromebook, for you to pick up from the office tomorrow afternoon. It is my goal to have them ready for pick up as early in the day as possible. I will send a Dojo message out as soon as they are ready so you know when you can begin stopping by. They will be ready no later than the end of the school day. Please plan to stop by even if your child was at home last week as there will be additional supplies needed for this week. If you need your child's supplies to be placed outside of the school for a later pick up please let me know and I will ask the office staff to put them out front before they leave for the day. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you all for your flexibility during these uncertain times, have a great week!
