We finished our winter read aloud Disaster Strikes: Blizzard Night by Marlane Kennedy last week. The students really enjoyed this book and are very interested in reading more books from the series in the future. Ask your child to tell you about this read aloud. They should be able to summarize the story for you. Please let me know if they are able to do this so that I can recognize them for their active listening. This read aloud is a perfect segue into our end of unit project. The students will spend this week creating a informational news report on winter safety as part of our Hug a Tree Winter Survival program.
Tomorrow is our Valentine's Day celebration. We will have Valentine's themed activities spread throughout our day and will conclude the day by passing out Valentine's cards. All students should bring their Valentine's cards to school with them tomorrow. A list of names came home in last week's Friday folder to aid your child in labeling their cards. If your child has misplaced the list and needs a new copy please click here.
Finally, the 2nd half of the year is typically very busy in 3rd grade with many field trips to enhance our learning. We are still waiting to hear when field trips can resume but In order to make all of these trips possible we need more parent volunteers. Bussing is very limited this year so we need volunteers to help transport students. Without more cleared parent volunteers we may have to cancel some of our spring trips. If you have not yet had a chance to complete the volunteer clearance process please do so as soon as possible.
Have a great week!
