We wrapped up our Fractions unit on Friday and will be spending the next couple of days reviewing what we have learned before taking our end of unit assessment. During this unit we spent a lot of time learning how to compare fractions. We used number lines, fraction circles, fraction strips and our fraction cards to help us with this endeavor. While comparing fractions we discussed what an equivalent fraction is. By now your child should be able to tell you that an equivalent fraction is when two fractions equal the same amount such as 1/2 and 2/4. Please let me know if they are able to do this so that I can reward them in class for being an active listener.
We are still in need of several more drivers to make our June field trips happen. We have 25 students in our class and at this time we only have 15 seat belts for our June 9th field trip to Donner Memorial State park and only 9 seat belts for our June 17th field trip to downtown Truckee. Please let me know if you are in the process of getting cleared to be a volunteer driver or if you are able to transport your own child on either of these trips. Here is a link to the district website where you can find more information on how to start the process if you have not already done so.
Finally, state testing season is quickly approaching. Our class will test on five separate days in May to complete the CAASPP assessment. We are scheduled to take the ELA portion of the assessment on May 24th, 25th, and 26th and will be taking the Math portion on May 31st and June 1st. Please do your best to ensure your child will be present on these dates so that they can complete their testing. If your child does miss a testing date they will be able to make it up but will have to miss classroom instruction to do so. It is always best if they take it while the rest of the class is taking it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week!
