In math we have been working on learning how to solve one step word problems or number stories. We have learned how to make sense of a problem by looking for what information is provided and what information the problem is asking us to find. We have also worked on making a plan for solving word problems and even how to check that our answer is reasonable by making an estimate. This week we will dive a bit deeper in to our study and begin learning how to solve two step number stories.
Next week will be a busy week for us. Please don't forget that it is conference week. Students will be released from school at 12:50 each day to allow time for these very important meetings. Please make sure your child knows where to go each day. We still have a few parents missing from the conference schedule. If you have not signed up for a conference time yet please do so as soon as possible. The sign up can be found on signup.com. You can also find the link on our parent page under helpful links. It is very important that I meet with all of you to discuss your child's progress and set goals for the year. If the available times do not work for you please let me know and we can make other arrangements.
In addition to conferences we will also be celebrating pumpkino week next week. On Friday your child will be adopting a pumkino baby (a tiny pumpkin). If you have had a 3rd grader in the past you are already familiar with this project. If not a packet of information will be coming home with your child on Friday. They will be designing houses, writing poems, and doing many other fun activities with their pumkinos including a fashion show! This is a 3rd grade tradition that the students just love! I am exited to see what they all come up with. Please look for more information in this week's Friday folder.
