We spent last week learning about the idea of perspective. To help us understand this idea we read the book Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne. In this story we heard about a day at the park through 4 different perspectives. Each character told a slightly different version of what happened at the park. We analyzed each characters version of the story and discussed how each character was feeling based off of the details in their story as well as the changing details in the illustrations.
We also learned about our last few American symbols: The Great Seal of the United States, The Washington Monument, The Jefferson Memorial, and The Declaration of Independence. Ask your child to tell you what they know about these important American symbols. If they are able to tell you some facts they have learned without looking back at their notes please let me know so that I can recognize them for being an active listener in class.
Even though we will have limited time in the classroom this week our week is still very full and busy. We will be wrapping up our American Government and symbols unit as well as having lots of fun with our Pumkinos. Your child should have come home with a baby pumkino that they adopted on Friday. They have named their pumkinos and should have signed a contract about taking care of them over the next week. This a third grade tradition that the students love. I can't even tell you how much excitement was in the room on Friday when I introduced the students to the project. This project isn't just about the fun though, it allows us to practice our listening and speaking skills, measurement skills, and expand our creativity. All week we will be taking time out of our days to share our pumkino projects. Tomorrow your child should bring their pumkino back to school along with the house they built for their pumkino. We will all be sharing the homes we constructed with each other. Your child should also have come home with a pumpkino packet on Friday. It has a schedule along with more details about what your child should bring to school each day. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week!
