I am so happy to have all of the students back together again in the classroom. It has been a turbulent month but we survived and stayed positive throughout it all. If your child has any remaining supplies at home please remind them to put them in their backpack so they can bring them back to school for use in the classroom.
We are well into our Winter Survival unit and the students have been extra excited about our winter themed read aloud Disaster Strikes: Blizzard Night by Marlane Kennedy. Each chapter we have read has ended in a cliffhanger. Each time I finish reading a chapter the students let out a loud "awwww" in unison. We have been talking about how this is a technique that authors use to keep us interested and coming back for more. This book has been great for helping us practice making predictions, an important reading skill. In addition to making predictions while we read we have been practicing recounting details from the text, using context clues and or dictionaries to define new vocabulary, expressing our opinions, and identifying cause and effect relationships.
Finally, don't forget that this Wednesday is a minimum day. All students will be dismissed from school. at 12:50.
Have a great week!
