This week we will be going on our rescheduled field trip to the Gatekeeper's Museum in Tahoe City. If your child has not returned their permission slip for this trip please do so tomorrow as we will be going on our trip on Tuesday, the 28th. A new permission slip was sent home before Thanksgiving on bright green paper. Even if you signed the first form that was sent home you will need to sign and return the new form as it required due to the date change. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to drive and chaperone on this trip. This trip wouldn't be possible without you.
Next Saturday, December 2, is the annual holiday breakfast. To help with this important fundraising event we are putting together a basket to be auctioned off at the breakfast. Our class's basket theme is fishing. We currently have a Cabela's gift card and tackle box that have generously been donated but are still in need of more donations. If you are able please send in your donations by Tuesday the 28th so that we have time to put everything together before the breakfast. We are still looking for fishing supplies to complete our basket such as lures, fishing line, a fishing net, bait, weights, hooks, etc. Whatever fishing related items you can think of. If you are unable to send in an item and would like to send in a monetary donation to be used for purchasing fishing supplies that would be appreciated as well. Thank you for your help with this endeavor.
Finally, this Friday your child will be bringing home their first report card of the year in their Friday folder. As the district continues their role out of standards based report cards I want to remind you of the changes to the way in which your child is evaluated. They are no longer evaluated based off of where they should be at this point in the year but instead are evaluated based off of the end of 3rd grade expectations. This means you can expect to see mostly 1s and 2s for most students at this point in the year. Please don't panic when you see these scores. You should really consider this report to be more of a progress report rather than a report card with the end of year report being the time when we see students progress to 3s and possibly 4s. It is completely normal for them to not have met the end of 3rd grade expectations in only 3 months of school. We will continue to work on all standards reported and by the next report you should see those scores improve to more 2s with some 3s possibly. A more thorough letter explaining the new way of grading will come home with your child's report card. If you have any questions about your child's performance please don't hesitate to ask. I know this is a shift that will take some getting used to since it is not what most of us are used to seeing.
Have a great week!
