We finished our Adaptation presentations last week and shared our dioramas with you through Class Dojo. If you haven't had a chance to view your child's post please do so when you get a chance, they really do love seeing your likes and comments. Your child should have brought their diorama home with them on Friday as well.
We introduced the ALICE protocol to students this week and it went very well. We read the book I'm not Scared, I'm prepared by Julia Cook to introduce the idea of this new drill. If you would like to view this book Mrs. Ketron has several copies available in the library for you to borrow. This week we will be calmly practicing going to a rally point to practice the E in ALICE which stands for evacuate. The students may have questions about this protocol as we go through this process. Please check in with your child as we learn this new drill so that you can answer any questions they may have. The most important thing for students to learn during this process is to Stop, Look, and Listen to their teacher in an emergency.
This week we will be enjoying the Science Fair. This is a great event put on by the Sierra Watershed Education Partnership (SWEP). It focus on teaching students about our local environment and empowering students to take action in their community to make a positive difference. This wonderful event is not possible without the help of volunteers. SWEP is still in need of volunteers for this week's event. If you are available to help run a station please click here to sign up for a shift. Our class will be attending the Science Fair on Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 if you would like to volunteer while we will be there but volunteers are also needed Wednesday evening if you can't make it during the day time. Although we will be going to this event during the day as a class there is not enough time for the students to go to every station. To give your child a chance to explore all of the stations you and your child are invited to attend Family Science Fair Night Wednesday evening as well.
Finally, your child should have come home with a yellow permission slip in their Friday Folder for our upcoming field trip to the Discovery Museum. Please fill out and return this permission slip at your earliest convenience so that we can make sure we have enough drivers. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week!
