After watching the webinar and learning more about self regulation I learned that to reach the top of the elevator students need to have the opportunity to revise their work based on feedback. While I have done this before I need to be more explicit and purposeful with my feedback. I need to do more than correct their spelling and capitalization errors or fix their sentence structure. I need to give feedback based off of a pre-designed rubric that has been given to them in advance. I also need to have students critiquing and providing feedback to each other based off of the same rubric. feedback needs to come from multiple sources and students need to be given sufficient time to adjust their work based off of the feedback.
What changes might you implement based on your new knowledge?
Based on what I have learned I intend to use pre-made rubrics more often in my classroom and give feedback based off of the rubrics. I also intend to do more peer to peer conferencing with the rubrics. By giving feedback based of a rubric I feel I will be able to give more explicit feedback to my students and so will their peers. It will also aid my students in understanding the feedback given to them and what next steps they need to take. After providing my students with sufficient feedback I plan to give them more time afterwards to make adjustments to their work.
