- What did you learn?
have barely scratched the surface of true collaboration. I am always requiring my students to work in pairs or groups which is a good start but there is so much more to it. I really need to move beyond that. I need to have the students making more substantive decisions together and completing an interdependent task. I avoid grading group work because I feel it's hard to grade but I need to push push myself past that. I also need to allow the students to have more responsibility in the planning process. I need to allow them to design and assign the roles and even give them more choice in the tasks themselves. I need to continue to push my students to become independent learners.
2. What changes might you implement based on your new knowledge?
I think the first step I am going to make is to start giving my students options when assigning them projects so that they are the ones making the decisions. I am also going to try to put more of the planning process in their hands. I need to allow them to figure it out and not give them so much guidance and direction which is hard when you are in a primary classroom but something that is necessary.
